lyrics

I want a red hot Mississippi woman
A woman who knows what’s right
Right by my side for a while
I want it red hot, fresh from the oven
My favorite recipe
What a man needs for a while

Boy what what’s in your heart boy?
What in your heart boy what’s beating you down boy?
Beating you down boy why did you walk so far why?
Why did you walk so far? At least in ain't as far as it was before

I’ve been to hell and back with my brother
Behind the penitentiary walls
They beat me till I couldn’t be beaten no more
So I need a red hot Mississippi woman to ease my pain
Embrace me with her arms and let me live again

Boy what what’s in your heart boy?
What in your heart boy what’s beating you down boy?
Beating you down boy why did you walk so far why?
Why did you walk so far? At least in ain't as far as it was before

Red hot diva from the deep
You have my soul to keep; you have my soul to keep
So I want it red hot fresh from the oven
You get all of my loving; you get all my love o, but

Boy what what’s in your heart boy?
What in your heart boy what’s beating you down boy?
Beating you down boy why did you walk so far why?
Why did you walk so far? At least in aint as far as it was before

I heard the southern bells ringing my name from behind the penitentiary walls
The beat me till I couldn’t hear the bells no more
So then I broke out of the big house gates to pursue my southern dream
And as soon enough I found myself down on my knees o

Boy what what’s in your heart boy?
What in your heart boy what’s beating you down boy?
Beating you down boy why did you walk so far why?
Why did you walk so far? At least in aint as far as it was before

Broke down in the middle of the road after twenty-seven miles
Reverend Jeremiah and his Cut Throat Choir appeared right by my side and I said
“Reverend if I die would you bury me in my grave,” and he said
“Boy what are you talking about?
We wont let it end this way” then they sang

Boy what what’s in your heart boy?
What in your heart boy what’s beating you down boy?
Beating you down boy why did you walk so far why?
Why did you walk so far? At least in aint as far as it was before

I felt the weight of a thousand miles as I got up on my feet
I had heart of fire, but it bothered me
There was a siren in the middle of the road that sang a pretty tune
I spoke to Jeremiah, said to his choir “Do you take me for a fool know do you?”

Boy what, what’s in your heart boy?
What in your heart boy what’s beating you down boy?
Beating you down boy why did you walk so far why?
Why did you walk so far? At least in ain't as far as it was before

I climbed the Choctaw Tower on the side of the road with strength that I had left
The pain and sorrow that was putting me down would disappear with every step
And as the door to the top drew close to me, I could plainly see
The door open wide she was sitting in side smiling right back at me
